This Halloween, the past is hunting again.

I hated Halloween. I had good reason to. 

When I left Ash Falls, I never intended to set foot in the town again. I’d been the boy from the wrong side of town, and even though I had a rock-solid alibi when my girlfriend was found murdered during the Halloween Festival, no one believed I was innocent. 

So my best friends and I left without looking back. 

We joined the military, served our time, and when we got out, we opened a bail bond company together. Years later, when my mom called asking for help, I couldn't say no—even though returning to Ash Falls was the last thing I wanted. 

I never expected to meet the woman who would turn my carefully ordered life upside down in the town's bookstore. I certainly never expected to fall for her—hard and fast. 

But while I'd been gone, evil had only been sleeping. 

Now that I was back, it had awakened... and it was coming for what was mine.

All I'd ever wanted was to own a bookstore. I made that dream come true. 

Enshrined in Spines was my happy place, and I loved everything about it, including that it was in the town of Ash Falls. I was living my dream. 

Then he rode back into town on his motorcycle. Wary and distrustful.  

Not that I blamed him. The town of Ash Falls hadn’t treated him kindly. He'd been my high school crush, but the man who returned was nothing like the boy I'd admired from afar. 

He was protective, watchful, and not a little haunted by his past. And he made me feel things I'd never felt with anyone else. 

When evil rose again, this time with me as its target, Saber did everything he could to keep me safe.
